1. Access Payroll Settings

  • From the Left Navigation Menu, click your Company Name

  • Select Payroll Settings

  • Click the pencil icon next to Company Payroll to begin editing

2. General Configuration

📝 Custom Payroll Name

Give your payroll rule a name, if needed. Leave “Set As Default Rule” checked unless you’re managing multiple configurations.

🍽️ Override Meal Payment

  • Default behavior: Meals are unpaid (counted as negative time)

  • Optional: Check this box if you need to make occasional meal breaks paid

Most users won't need this feature — only enable it if your organization allows flexible paid meal rules.

3. Shift Splitting

🕛 Shifts to be Split Based On:

  • Date of Punch-In

  • Custom Workday

This setting matters only for overnight shifts that span midnight.

Example:

  • Punch-In at 7:00 PM, Clock-Out at 7:00 AM

    • Custom Workday: Splits into 2 shifts
      → 7:00 PM–12:00 AM and 12:00 AM–7:00 AM

    • Date of Punch-In: One shift
      → 7:00 PM–7:00 AM

Choose what best aligns with your reporting needs and payroll policy.

4. Overtime Rules

Click Overtime Rules to configure:

  • Weekly Overtime Default: 40 hours/week

    • Can be edited or disabled

  • Work Week Start Day: Choose the appropriate day (e.g. Sunday, Monday, or your specific payroll cycle start)

  • Daily Overtime / Double Time (if applicable):
Check the box to unlock additional fields for daily rules

  • California’s 7-Day Rule:

    • Check this box if applicable

    • On the 7th consecutive day in a workweek:

      • Hours 1–8 = Overtime

      • Hours 8+ = Double time

    • Optionally, send alerts to mobile users when they reach Day 7

5. Meal Break Preferences

Click the pencil icon under Meal Break Preferences to edit.

✔️ Paid Meal Breaks

  • Check only if meals are paid

  • Decide if paid meals should count toward:

    • Regular time

    • Overtime

    • Double time

⚠️ You should know whether paid meal breaks do or do not count toward accruals for your organization.

⏱️ Meal Break Duration

  • Determines how long an employee is locked out after starting a meal break

  • Set to 0 minutes if no lockout is needed

🚨 Compliance: Meal Infractions

Used to enforce state laws (e.g. California):

  • CA law requires meal break to start before 5th hour of work, unless shift is under 6 hours

  • The system will flag:

    • Late meal starts

    • Missing meal breaks (if shift > 6 hours)

🔔 Mobile Notifications

Meal Start Reminder:

  • Send alert to begin meal break after X hours into the shift

Meal End Reminder:

  • Send alert to end meal break after X minutes into the meal

Auto-End Meal Break:

  • Automatically end the meal break after a defined time
→ Check this box to enable
